When we met, Wilma had two lovely American Cocker Spaniels. After a couple of years we had to put one of them down and decided to look for another dog. Because Irwan was raised together with German shepherds, he wanted a bigger dog than the cockers, but if possible with the same wonderful character.
Soon we decided to go for a Vizsla.
Wilma was from the beginning very interested in breeding and we looked for a good female to start with breeding.
Unfortunately were our two females not as expected, we will spare you the details. So we decided to look somewhere else for a puppy.
Wilma went to Cruft's and saw a lot of great looking Vizslas' with good characters.
After she returned home, she phoned Gay Gottlieb and asked her if she could help us out finding a puppy in the UK.
Gay told us that she had no plans to breed in the near time, but gave us the address of the Alsziv-kennel, owned by Ann and John Digby.
Immediately we phoned them and told them what we were looking for: a bitch with good character and if possible a bitch to breed with.
Over there we saw a very nice bitch, bought her and named her Alzsiv Simply Red.
The Digby's always use a theme to name there litters. This time it was pop-groups and Simply Red was one of them.
Because we use the nickname "red basters" for our dogs, we thought it matched wonderful.
We only used the name Zoë for her, because we had no idea how to call her in the fields if we use Simply Red.
Zoë became a wonderful bitch and won a lot of prices. All about her you will find on her page.
After Zoë was hip-scored etc. we decided to breed with her. We wanted to use a kennel name and were
thinking about something that fitted to both of us. Finally we found a way to express something of us.
Wilma's last name is FONTEYN, which has the same sound as the English translation of fountain.
Irwans roots are Indonesian, and the Indonesian translation of fountain is "Pancaran Air".
"Pancaran" also means charisma, descent or extraction. So we mixed it up together and the name "PANCARAN'S" was born.
We use it as a prefix.
We had our first litter in May 1997 and all 11 pups were doing quite well.
We kept one bitch ourselves and named her Pancaran's first Pride. We call her Millie.
All the pups from our first litter have the prefix "Pancaran's First".
Now you are thinking why we call her Millie instead of Pride.
We are big fans of U2 and all our dogs are named after song titles of U2.
Since a couple of years the rules of the Dutch Kennelclub are changed. You have to give the pups a name at the age of 5 days.
Because it's very difficult to tell which puppy you will keep at the age of 5 days, we give them all quite common names.
So that's the reason that our youngest is named on the pedigree Pancaran's Irisz and we call her "Pepper".
